The only item surviving from the Insurance Department is an annual report covering loss & damage freight claims for the year 1926. The report contains a breakdown of loss & damage claims and payments for the year 1926, both by commodity, cause, and carload or less-than-carload classification. There are also comparative statistics for the years 1924-1926 and a narrative explaining trends and steps to be taken to reduce future claims.

The PRR created a full Insurance Department on January 22, 1879. The department handled all fire, marine and other insurance, and maintained all insurance schedules and insurance maps.
